Project Topic Brainstorm


  • For my first idea on project topic is Shakespeare! I gravitated towards this topic due to my love of the 1996 version of the play with Leonardo DiCaprio. I took to it so much due to the modernization of the Shakespearean play. My idea with possibly creating a story from it would be to modernize the play even more and even a potential new ending to the tragic story. My thoughts include use of today's technology, the new era view points on relationships, and creating either a happy ending or keeping it original with staying with tragedy.
  • My second idea stems from the topic of Legendary Creatures. My view on this would be to tell a story on the legend of Bigfoot, focusing majorly on how he/she came to be. This is a particularly interesting topic to me since living here in Oklahoma and having mass wooded areas, this is a legend everybody has heard about.

  • Another project idea is a portfolio of Creek Stories. Since I am part Muscogee (Creek), I would like to tell stories shared with me from elders. I really enjoyed how one of the past projects took a story that was told from third person and retold it in first person, from a character's perspective. That would be another avenue to explore and see what other perspective could be taken.
  • My last project idea would be a Ghost Story. This idea kind of interplays on the tribal side since I have heard numerous stories of families experiencing paranormal happenings and finding out that their home is actually on a Native American burial site. I am really interested in possibly telling as an actual ghost story, meaning it would be told in the ghost's perspective.

My Thoughts on the Assignments

What assignments am I most intrigued by? I think that the Storybook project is the assignment that  intrigues me the most. After browsing and reading through others' storybooks it really excited me to be able to write one of my own. In high school I took a creative writing class, and part of the class was to write imaginative stories and share them with classmates for feedback and more ideas on where to take the story. Hence I see many similarities between this class and the later one which excites me! As far as extra credit goes, I really liked the Growth Mindset assignment and would really like to do more on that. With being here in college and taking pretty tough classes, I will admit that having/keeping a growth mindset does get difficult, especially at certain parts of the semester. Reading Notes Part A: Fables of Bidpai

First to note, I really took interest in how the Bidpai was able to reduce such mass amounts of reading into four paragraphs that summarized the main points of all the readings for the king. Since I am using the story of Romeo and Juliet, the original story is sought to be quite long and therefore implementing something as condensation of the story to the more important parts will be beneficial. (Image:  Maharaja of Indore ) Secondly, the overall theme of testing ones values/beliefs for if they are good, the recipient gifts the other with good things. Once again relating to my project, this theme is one I would like to employ in one of my versions of Romeo and Juliet. Being that in the original story, it was mostly centered on the tragedy, I would like to incorporate the test of good/bad and having the consequences shown. Growing Mindset: Sprouts Video

Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset Sprouts Video One thing this video confirmed for me already was how a open minded individual is better than a closed one. Having the ability to grow within oneself is so much better than being closed off to what you think you can only do. The one new thing that I really hadn't noticed before after doing the first Growth Mindset project was how nurture is better than nature. In the video he used the example of twins, one who had been adopted and the other who stayed with the biological parents. Just how nurturing the adopted one was better than automatically assessing the achievements of the one who stayed with biological parents based on their own success.  One thing I am going to explore is my thought logic on receiving exam grades back.
