Week 9 Story:

"Sir it's that time again.", stated one little elf. He was so excited that his little cheeks were rosy red.

"You're right Sam!", exclaimed the big jolly man himself. "We better get started before we get behind. Go and spread the word to all the other elves and let's get the workshop going!"

This was the time of year when the air is filled with chill and the wind carries the sweet smell of pies and cakes. It's Christmas time, the jolliest time of the year! So you better watch out, and you better not cry. You better not pout cause I will tell you why....Santa Clause is coming to town!
So let me tell you a little story about Christmas...

...Up at the North pole, Santa receives mail daily like no other, especially in December. He sits and reads every piece and even responds to some too! His most important job though, is to go over this HUGE checklist he has of every boy and girl from all over the world! But let's talk about first things first. Throughout the year, Santa's elves are cautiously watching each boy and girl they have been assigned to and must write a report on them and give it to Santa. Once Santa reads each report he makes a list of all the good boys and girls and one for all the bad. When time gets closer to Christmas, Santa has to sit down and go back through the list to make sure everybody on the good list is still good! He also goes through the bad list and sometimes if a kid has been really good, he or she can be put on the good list and still get presents! The ones who stay on the bad list get coal in their stockings. :(

As Santa goes through his list, checking it twice, he also has to make sure his reindeer are fit and ready to go. There are: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, and Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blixen and the most famous reindeer of them all....Rudolph! Santa plays reindeer games with them and carrots that taste like sugar cookies. He makes sure they all have their sleigh bells and that Rudolph's nose shines bright as ever since he will be leading the way!

Once the time has come, Santa and his elves load up the sleigh. Mrs. Clause gives Santa one last kiss and a plate of cookies and some milk to start his journey for that one special night. So you better fall fast asleep Christmas Eve and no peeking for gifts under the tree till morning cause...he sees when you're sleeping and knows when you're awake!

Author's Note:
I chose to write this story on Santa Clause/Christmas after doing an extra credit assignment on the Overview of Mythology. In the videos they talked about how we do not know whether a myth or folklore is real or even had truth at one point. As children, we are sought to believe in the story of Santa Clause. The aspect of having stories, such as the Santa Clause version of Christmas, passed down for generations/centuries and supposedly staying true to the story also holds significance as well.  Is it just to make us behave or was it true at some point? Therefore it adds a kind of questioning feeling as to whether some myths could really be true if there are multiple accounts of the same story throughout the whole world.

  1. Hi Crystel! I like how you made up this story based on the Overview of Mythology. I never thought about relating Santa Clause into a mythological creature, which sounds stupid as I am typing it. I know Santa is mythical, but when I think of “mythology” I usually think about Greek mythology, so that was so fun and creative! Great job!

  2. Hello Crystel! I am super happy that you chose a Christmas theme to write about and that I chose it by chance! I am very happy to the winter festivities begin even though Halloween just ended. I like this story because it immerses culture into the mythology aspect of literature. Because who knows, in the future people will talk about how we believed in Santa to be a mythic god
