Week 3 Feedback Strategies

Image
Feedback Quote  By Ken Blanchard For this assignment, the first article I chose was  "How to Give Feedback Without Sounding Like A Jerk" . I chose this specifically because I know from personal experience this is a small difficulty. I have found that switching the wording of the question you're using for feedback or even your tone (if in person) can really help! One thing the article pointed out that I like most was how most people tend to gloss over the middle of a conversation so its best to give positive feedback at the beginning and end. Another big part mentioned was to engage in dialogue and not a manipulative monologue. I feel this helps tremendously over online situations cause even though the two aren't present for real conversation, one can be actively made allowing free and easy feedback. The second article I chose was " Why Do So Many Managers Avoid Giving Praise " mainly because of my work environment. There are specific supervisors we em...

Oh Where Art Thou Topic Research

Image
Hey guys! So after some deliberation, I have decided to follow the Shakespearean path and do a recreation of Romeo & Juliet! Prehistoric Romeo & Juliet *: The Archaeological Society SAP / AP Okay, so for starters the idea for one version of the story is the most obvious/wanted....turning the frown upside down! Meaning, I have thought about making the tragic love story into one of happiness and living characters. I know the ending of the play was one everyone hated and wished that there had been better communication between the two as far as "dying". This leads me to my second idea... Since the 1990's remake of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio, there hasn't been another. My second idea for a story would be to bring the characters to modern times. This would instill a more relatable environment to the actual characters for my viewers. My thoughts on such would be to place Romeo and Juliet in today's society yet leaving all the unique cha...

Reading Notes: Homer's Iliad, Part A

Image
Achilles Wounded by the Heel by Charles Alphonse Achille Gumery I chose this reading because of having to read it before for another class and wanting to see the difference in retelling. First and foremost, I love the passion behind each sentence Church retold. Even though the story is shorter, by means of being without minor details, it still tells of the core parts. Church delivers each emotion with such clarity yet also allowing you to draw your own personal feelings for the situation as well.  Another interesting aspect I am fond of is the way Homer incorporated the various gods and their respective parts they played in the war. We as an audience are shown both sides as to which gods are being prayed to and are actually holding their end of the "deal". Others we see acting vainly and doing their own which ultimately causes tragedy. I like this aspect of gods having thoughts on how they see the war ending cause this creates yet another layer of intensity within ...

My Feedback Thoughts

Image
Feedback Cats Image from  cheezburger The first article I chose was  6 Hidden Downsides of Perfectionism . I picked this article due to having close family members and friends tell me that I'm a perfectionist. I didn't really believe it until reading this article. One point that stuck out the most was the one on procrastination. I do have a problem with procrastinating. The article stated that, "perfectionists are specific about having the perfect conditions before they get to work", which is definitely true for me. I can't focus if I haven't done all my small tasks beforehand or if my study conditions aren't "right". The second point that stuck out was the disregard to own health. Usually I am one to stay up late to finish a project or homework and only get 3-4hrs per night of sleep. So, putting my own health on a back burner usually rebounds back on me and I have been trying to fix that part of my habits. The second article I chose was  T...

Project Topic Brainstorm

Image
For my first idea on project topic is  Shakespeare ! I gravitated towards this topic due to my love of the 1996 version of the play with Leonardo DiCaprio. I took to it so much due to the modernization of the Shakespearean play. My idea with possibly creating a story from it would be to modernize the play even more and even a potential new ending to the tragic story. My thoughts include use of today's technology, the new era view points on relationships, and creating either a happy ending or keeping it original with staying with tragedy. My second idea stems from the topic of  Legendary Creatures . My view on this would be to tell a story on the legend of Bigfoot, focusing majorly on how he/she came to be. This is a particularly interesting topic to me since living here in Oklahoma and having mass wooded areas, this is a legend everybody has heard about.  Light Bulb with Brain  used/created in post by David Defranza on Brainstorming Another project idea ...

Week 2 Story: A Navajo Díne

Image
Long Exposure Traffic Light  By: Lucas Zimmermann It was an unusually dark night as the Begay family was making their way back home….. They had just come from spending the whole day with grandma and grandpa. Before they left, grandma was begging them not to get on the road that late, for the moon was approaching mid sky and bad things tend to roam that late. The father insisted on getting back home since he had work the next day. So Grandpa, the mother’s dad, went back inside their home to get yellow corn pollen to bless the family on their way but little to his luck they had already gotten into the car. He noticed out the corner of his eye the little one’s doll and quickly said a blessing and ran it out to the car. The little one was no more than two years old and had already fallen asleep so he tucked the soft doll right under her arm. He then told his daughter to head home fast, keep straight and not to look back. Because of being in such rush, she didn’t have a chance t...

First Reading Notes: Supernatural: A Teton Ghost Story

Image
Ghostly Woods of Mt. Penn  By: raistlin306 The author's use of imagery helped me to envision what is exactly happening and added a deeper sense of suspense. Also the description of the traditional clothing worn by both ghosts gives the audience a sense of time period of where they are from confirming the accusation of them being ghost. The plot of this story was well written in regards to the lesson of the story. When the author used the sentence, " He tore a hole in his blanket large enough to peep through", it added an element of surprise and made me feel as though I am the one looking through the hole. The fall of the story was smooth with small waves of tension with the fight between the to male characters, and gave an intense setting for the ending. However the ending of the story felt short and quick. I did not understand the switch in ghost characters at the end. I was hoping to read more about the woman that had came to him the night previously. So persona...
